About the event
We get together in the very inviting green house behind the Couscous Club ( a hidden pearl in the centre of Amsterdam). Speaking Dutch in an environment where making mistakes is not an issue, but a way to learn. Topics that we talk about are ones that are of interest and relevance for women of all nationalities living in Amsterdam: work, health, social life, food, shopping, travelling… You are also welcome to present topics that matter to you. The classes are in the very first place aiming at improving your Dutch communication skills and increasing your vocabulary. So... talking, talking and more talking!
Serving as supporting materials are the Routledge Colloquial Dutch (1 and 2) books. Compared with other well-known Dutch learning methods such as ‘Nederlands in Gang’, ‘Nederlands in Actie’ etc. these books are more strongly connected with daily life in The Netherlands and the use of language that comes with that. Buying the book(s) is not necessary, as they will be used mainly as a source of good topics and relevant vocabulary. When diving into a bit of grammar is (unavoidably…)needed, I will provide print-outs with the theory about the subject in question. But as said before: the big focus will be on speaking, talking and chatting in Dutch. Hoping to welcome you soon in the Couscous Club!

About the teacher:
Having been born in the heart of Amsterdam I have always stayed here and hope to continue living and teaching here for many years to come. Â After studying Dutch for a short time at the University of Amsterdam I ventured into creative writing for music-theatre performances, voice-over work, and creative communication for various campaigns. I have been copy-writing professionally for many years, translated English spoken animated movies into Dutch and wrote song lyrics and poetry.
In April 2020 I started teaching Dutch and have since discovered how much I like doing that! I have a sharp eye for grammar and (as a professional singer and voice-over) a good ear for the right pronunciation. I am surprised how much fun it is to help others in mastering my language.
